Royal Academy Adds US Black-Type
Former shuttler & now permanently Australian-based Coolmore stallion Royal Academy (Nijinsky-Crimson Saint, by Crimson Satan) added a US black-type success when UK-bred 6YO mare Danzon (Royal Academy-Zappeuse, by Kingmambo) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the US$50,000 Listed Kentucky Cup Ladies Turf Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Kentucky Downs. Danzon (ridden by Miguel Mena for trainer Kellyn Gorder) defeated 5YO mares Secret Kin (Sea Of Secrets-Leisurely Kin, by Capote) & Lady Carlock (Chester House-Incha, by Nashwan). Danzon was a 42,000 guineas (A$86,000) yearling at the 2004 UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall she now has 6 wins (also including 2007's Gr3 Kentucky Cup Distaff Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Turfway Park & 2006's French Gr3 Prix Vanteaux over 1850m at Longchamp, plus 2005's French Listed Prix Delahante over 1800m at Marseille-Borely) & 6 placings (including 2007's Gr1 Gr1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes over 9 furlongs at Churchill Downs & Gr3 Early Times Mint Julep Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Churchill Downs, plus 2006's German Gr3 Kolner Herbst Stuten Meile over 1600m at Cologne & French Listed Prix La Camargo over 1600m at Saint-Cloud) from 20 starts for US$382,533 earnings.
