California Yearlings: Average Down 25.6%

Overall in California, 178 yearlings sold for US$2,209,600 (down 11.1% on last year's 149 sold for US$2,486,600). The US$12,413 average was down 25.6% (last year US$16,689) & the US$5,000 median was down 44.4% (last year US$9,000). Barretts vice president William Baker told bloodhorse.com: "In this economy, everyone wants to bargain shop." And fellow Barretts vice president Kim Lloyd added: "It was a well-attended sale. The money's just not out there."
