Eva's Request Wins Italy Gr1 Lydia Tesio

Monday, 26th October 2009

In Italy overnight, former NZ Haunui Stud shuttler Soviet Star (Nureyev-Veruschka, by Venture) added a Gr1 triumph when Irish-bred 4YO mare Eva's Request (Soviet Star-Ingabelle, by Taufan) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the €243,000 (A$389,000) Gr1 Premio Lydia Tesio Shadwell (2000m) for fillies & mares at the Capannelle in Rome. Eva's Request (ridden by Alan Munro for trainer Mick Channon) defeated German-bred 3YO filly Night Magic (Sholokhov-Night Woman, by Monsun) & Irish-bred 5YO mare Les Fazzani (Intikhab-Massada, by Most Welcome). Previously this year, Eva's Request also won September's Turkish Listed Istanbul Trophy (1600m) at Veliefendi, June's UK Gr3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes (8.5 furlongs) at Epsom & May's UK Listed Conqueror Stakes (8 furlongs) at Goodwood. Overall she now has 7 wins (also including 2008's UK Listed Rosemary Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot & 2007's Irish Gr3 Weld Park Stakes over 7 furlongs at The Curragh) & 5 placings (including June's UK Gr2 Windsor Forest Stakes over 8 furlongs at Royal Ascot & February's UAE Listed Cape Verdi Stakes over 8 furlongs at Nad Al Sheba, plus 2008's UK Listed Dick Hern Fillies Stakes over 8 furlongs at Bath & 2007's UK Gr3 Prestige Stakes over 7 furlongs at Goodwood) from 25 starts.
