The Sportsman Wins Cathay Pacific Cup
Former NZ Westbury Stud stallion Kilimanjaro (Shirley Heights-Darara, by Top Ville) added a group success when 7YO gelding The Sportsman (Kilimanjaro-Lady Joelyn, by Noble Bijou) scored a front-running 0.75-length victory in the $270,000 Gr2 Cathay Pacific Cup (2500m) at Moonee Valley. The Sportsman (ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer Russell Cameron) defeated fellow 7YO gelding Irazu (Encosta De Lago-Morrigan Clare, by Toy Pindarri) & 4YO mare Think Money (Danehill Dancer-Ponziani, by Nassipour). The Sportsman took his record to 10 wins & 10 placings (including last start's Listed Cranbourne Cup over 2025m on October 11) from 47 starts for $397,694 earnings.
