5,000 Sign Petition To End SA Jumps Racing
In Australia, The Coalition For The Protection Of Racehorses presented a petition, signed by more than 5,000 South Australians & calling for an end to jumps racing, to Greens MP Mark Parnell at Parliament house in Adelaide yesterday, reported The Advertiser. The petition follows statements by SA racing authorities that they will allow jumps racing to continue in their state, despite Racing Victoria’s decision to end jumps racing in that state at the conclusion of the 2010 season. Coalition spokesman Colin Thomas said the petition “should send a clear message to the SA government & Racing Minister Michael Wright”. And Thomas declared the minister “should be ashamed & embarrassed that his government provided financial support to an industry that sent horses to their deaths in the name of entertainment”.
