Faint Perfume Wins Kewney Stakes

European champion 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a group success (& 3rd-placing) when daughter Faint Perfume (Shamardal-Zona, by Zabeel) returned from a 17-weeks spell to motor home from last-in-running & score a 0.75-length victory in the $400,000 Gr2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) for 3YO fillies at Flemington. Faint Perfume (ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Bart Cummings) defeated Response (Charge Forward-Live It Up, by Match Winner) & No Evidence Needed (Shamardal-Generosa, by Generous). Faint Perfume (passed-in for $40,000 & retained to race by Think Big Stud at the 2008 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney) took her record to 4 wins (also including 2009's Gr1 Crown Oaks over 2500m at Flemington & Gr2 Salinger Stakes over 2000m at Flemington) & a placing (in 2009's Gr1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield) from 8 starts for $1,107,590 earnings.
