World Record Sprinter Bob Black Jack Retired
US Gr1-winning 5YO sprinter Bob Black Jack (Stormy Jack-Molly's Prospector, by Native Prospector) "the former world record holder at 6 furlongs who returned from a 14-month layoff to capture the Gr2 San Carlos Handicap at Santa Anita on February 20, has been retired" after he "sustained a soft tissue injury to his right leg during a workout at Hollywood Park," reported bloodhorse.com. Bob Black Jack won the 2008 Gr1 Malibu Stakes (7 furlongs) at Santa Anita, but was later sidelined with a leg injury until his return in last month's San Carlos. He set a world record (since broken) of 1min 6.53sec for 6 furlongs in winning the 2008 Sunshine Millions Dash at Santa Anita. Trainer James Kasparoff said Bob Black Jack "would most likely be sold by his owners for stallion duty". Overall he recorded 5 wins & 3 placings (including the Gr1 Santa Anita derby) from 11 starts for US$684,925 earnings.
