Lingote De Oro Wins Argentina Gr1 Republica
In South America, former Coolmore shuttler Orpen (Lure-Bonita Francita, by Devil's Bag) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO entire Lingote De Oro (Orpen-Laika, by Old Trieste) notched his 2nd successive Gr1 victory in 3-weeks when he scored by a head in Argentina's Gr1 Gran Premio Republica Argentina (2000m) at Hipodromo Argentino de Palermo in Buenos Aires. Lingote De Oro (ridden by Jose Ricardo Mendez for trainer Ernesto Romero) defeated fellow 4YO entire Eternal Fire (Lode-Eterna Girl, by Sonus) & 6YO entire Aldeano Nov (Romanov-Aldeana Fitz, by Fitzcarraldo). Lingote De Oro took his record to 7 wins (also including last start's Gr1 Gran Premio Gilberto De Honor over 2000m at Palermo on April 10 & February's Listed Clasico Haras Argentinos over 1800 at Palermo, plus 2009's Gr2 Clasico Comparacion over 2500m at Palermo) & 5 runners-up (in each of 2008's Gr1 Gran Premio Jockey Club over 2000m at San Isidro, Gr1 Gran Premio 2000 Guineas over 1600m at San Isidro & Gr1 Gran Premio Estrellas Juvenile over 1600m at San Isidro) from 19 starts.
