Wellfield Connections Comment On Stud Coup
Commenting on the coup signing of Road To Rock, Wellfield Lodge's Bill Gleeson noted: "We believe he is the highest-rated and best-performed son of Encosta de Lago to go to stud to date. He beat Black Piranha in the George Main Stakes last spring and was considered unlucky not to have beaten Rangirangdoo in the Doncaster Handicap last month when his rider weighed in a kilo-and-a-half heavy." The stud farm's marketing manager Hugh Taylor pointed out, "He's the highest-rated entire in Australasia announced as retiring to stud this year. He will be one of only two horses standing in this country to have won two Gr1 races in Australia - and that could be extended on Saturday." Road To Rock's last start will be in Saturday's Gr1 Doomben Cup (2020m).
