Metal Bender Wins Gr1 Doomben Cup
On the Australian track, former Baerami Thoroughbreds & now Touchstone Farm Gr1-winning sire Danasinga (Danehill-Princess Tracy, by Ahonoora) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured 4YO gelding Metal Bender (Danasinga-Jacqwin, by Bluebird) gained the judge's verdict in a 3-way photo-finish to the $500,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Doomben Cup (2020m) at Doomben in Brisbane. Metal Bender (ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for trainer Chris Waller) scored by a head from 4YO mare Gold Water (Choisir-Float, by Devil's Bag) with a further short-halfhead to 5YO gelding Triple Honour (Honours List-Myrrh, by Nassipour). Metal Bender (a $160,000 yearling consigned by Waikato Stud at the 2007 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 7 wins (also including last start's Gr2 Hollindale Stakes over 1800m at the Gold Coast on May 8, plus 2009's Gr1 Randwick Guineas over 1600m & Gr1 Rosehill Guineas over 2000m) & 2 runners-up (including 2009's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m at Randwick) from 13 starts for $1,365,450 earnings.
