Barathea Adds UK Gr3

Friday, 28th May 2010

In the UK overnight, former Widden Stud shuttler Barathea (Sadler's Wells-Brocade, by Habitat) added a black-type success when 7YO gelding Stotsfold (Barathea-Eliza Acton, by Shirley Heights) came from the rear of the field to score by a neck in the £65,000 (A$112,000) Gr3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes (10 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Sandown Park, to better his 3rd-placing in this same race last year. Stotsfold (ridden by Adam Kirby for trainer Walter Swinburn) defeated front-running US-bred 6YO gelding Tazeez (Silver Hawk-Soiree Russe, by Nureyev) & favoured Irish-bred 4YO entire Glass Harmonium (Verglas-Spring Symphony, by Darshaan). Stotsfold took his record to 8 wins (also including 2009's French Gr3 La Coupe over 2000m at Longchamp, plus 2008's UK Gr3 Winter Hill Stakes over 10 furlongs at Windsor & 2007's UK Gr3 Select Stakes over 10 furlongs at Goodwood) & 6 placings (including 2009's US Gr1 Arlington Million Stakes over 10 furlongs at Arlington Park, UK Gr3 Select Stakes over 10 furlongs at Goodwood & Gr3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown Park, plus 2007's UK Listed Glorious Stakes over 12 furlongs at Goodwood) from 29 starts.
