1st Stakes-Winner For Freshman Sire Bluegrass Cat

In Canada, US Gr1-winning & twice classic-placed 7YO freshman stallion Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat-She's A Winner, by A.P.Indy) recorded his 1st stakes-winner when juvenile colt Blue Laser (Bluegrass Cat-With A Princess, by With Approval) scored a half-length victory in the C$250,000 Gr3 Grey Stakes (8.5 furlongs on all-weather) for 2YOs at Woodbine in Toronto. Blue Laser (ridden by Corey Fraser for trainer Mark Casse) defeated fellow colts Rockin Heat (Rock Hard Ten-Makin Heat, by Makin) & Classic Legacy (Macho Uno-Astella, by Tactical Advantage). Blue Laser (a US$320,000 weanling at the 2008 Keeneland November Sale) took his record to 2 wins & a runner-up from 3 starts for C$186,933 earnings. His sire Bluegrass Cat (who stands at WinStar Farm in Kentucky for US$25,000) recorded 5 wins (including the Gr1 Haskell Invitational Handicap over 9 furlongs at Monmouth Park, Gr2 Remsen Stakes over 9 furlongs at Aqueduct & Listed Sam Davis Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs) & 4 runners-up (including the Gr1 Kentucky Derby over 10 furlongs at Churchill Downs, Gr1 Belmont Stakes over 12 furlongs at Belmont Park, Gr1 Travers Stakes over 10 furlongs at Saratoga & Gr3 Tampa Bay Derby over 8.5 furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs) from 11 starts for US$1,761,280 earnings.
