Minister Should Push Sydney Merger "Without STC Approval"

Friday, 15th October 2010

Under the headline "Merger Must Be Rubber-Stamped", leading columnist Max Presnell declared today in The Sydney Morning Herald: "On Monday a majority of the 462 Sydney Turf Club members who voted said 'NO' to a merger with the Australian Jockey Club. But they shouldn't prevent a big step forward for Sydney racing. A merger between the clubs would get a guaranteed $174 million, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. . . . . Kevin Greene, the NSW minister for Gaming And Racing, should run his own race. Introduce it without STC approval. Didn't the NSW government establish the STC anyway?"
