Joshua Tree Wins Gr1 Canadian International
In Canada, dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a Gr1 triumph when Ballydoyle's Irish-bred 3YO colt Joshua Tree (Montjeu-Madeira Mist, by Grand Lodge) gained the decision against older rivals in a 3-way photo-finish to the C$2 million Gr1 Canadian International (12 furlongs on turf) at Woodbine in Toronto. Lightly-raced Joshua Tree (ridden by Colm O'Donoghue for trainer Aidan O'Brien) scored by a head from UK-bred 6YO entire Mores Wells (Sadler's Wells-Endorsement, by Warning) with a further nose to UK-bred 4YO entire Redwood (High Chaparral-Arum Lily, by Woodman). Joshua Tree was a 360,000 guineas (A$612,000) yearling at the 2008 UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall he now has 3 wins (also including 2009's UK Gr2 Royal Lodge Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot) & 2 placings (including August's UK Gr2 Great Voltigeur Stakes over 12 furlongs at York) from 6 starts for C$1,394,357 earnings.
