Champion South African Sire Al Mufti Dies Aged 26

In South Africa, 2002 Champion Sire Al Mufti (Roberto-Lassie Dear) died in his paddock at Ascot Stud aged 26. Described by The Sporting Post as "beyond doubt, South Africa's most influential sire of the last two decades", Al Mufti was retired from commercial stud duties in 2007 "following fertility issues". His last full crop are current 3YOs & include 2011 Gr1 Cape Derby winner Top Seller, while his final crop from 2007 stud duties includes 10 foals born in 2008 (now 2YOs). Al Mufti is a half-brother to Weekend Surprise (dam of Champion US sire A.P.Indy) & his Gr1-winning progeny include Al Nitak, Alastor, Arabian Lass, Captain Al, Cataloochee, Garb Of Guise, Gilded Minaret, Lady Brompton, Royal Fantasy, The Sheik & Top Seller. In addition Gr1-winners by Al Mufti mares include Bold Silvano, Copper Parade, Divine Jury, Heir Apparent, Jay Peg, Kings Gambit, Little Miss Magic, O Caesour, Rock Opera & Smart Banker.
