Black Caviar Heads Gr1 Stradbroke Weights At 60.5kg
Racing Queensland handicapper Nathan Bourke released the weights for the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 11, headed by 6-time Gr1-winning unbeaten 4YO mare & the world's highest-rated horse Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun) on 60.5kg. In her previous handicap appearance, Black Caviar was allotted 58kg in March's Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington; since then she has added a further 3 Gr1 triumphs. A weight of 60.5kg or more has been carried to victory in the Stradbroke only once in the past 100 years: Pittsworth Gun lugged the equivalent of 63kg in 1912. Next in this year's weights behind Black Caviar is Hay List with 57.5kg. And Black Piranha (winner of the past 2 Stradbrokes) has 56kg (up 0.5kg from last year).
