1st Winner For US Gr1-Winning Freshman Sire Sunriver

Monday, 23rd May 2011

Deceased US Gr1-winning & Gr1-placed freshman stallion Sunriver (Saint Ballado-Goulash, by Mari's Book) recorded his 1st winner when 2YO colt Suntorious (Sunriver-Gratorious, by Honor Grades) scored over 4.5 furlongs at Penn National in Pennsylvania. His sire Sunriver (a full-brother to dual champion racemare Ashado, who was a US$9 million broodmare at the 2005 Keeneland November mixed sale) died suddenly in 2009 while standing his 2nd season at Empire Stud in New York; he left approximately 150 foals from those years. On the track, Sunriver recorded 6 wins (including the Gr1 Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes at Hollywood Park, Gr2 Bowling Green Handicap at Belmont Park & Gr2 Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont) & 6 placings (including the Gr1 Belmont Stakes) from 17 starts for US$816,414 earnings.
