Xaar Adds UK Gr3

In the UK, former WA Oakland Park shuttler Xaar (Zafonic-Monroe, by Sir Ivor) added a group success when Irish-bred 5YO entire The Cheka (Xaar-Veiled Beauty, by Royal Academy) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the £50,000 (A$78,000) Gr3 Timeform Jury Stakes (7 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Haydock Park. The Cheka (ridden by Tom Queally for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton) defeated 7YO gelding Regal Parade (Pivotal-Model Queen, by Kingmambo) & 5YO gelding Doncaster Rover (War Chant-Rebridled Dreams, by Unbridled's Song). The Cheka was a 62,000 guineas (A$99,000) weanling at the 2006 Tattersalls December Sale & later a 58,000 guineas (A$93,000) yearling at the 2007 Tattersalls October Sale. Overall he now has 3 wins & 5 placings (in May’s Listed Royal Windsor Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Windsor & April’s Irish Gr3 Gladness Stakes over 7 furlongs at The Curragh, plus 2010’s Gr2 Sandown Mile over 8 furlongs at Sandown Park & Listed Ben Marshall Stakes over 8 furlongs at Newmarket, as well as 2008’s Gr3 Solario Stakes over 7 furlongs at Sandown Park) from 13 starts for £97,550 (A$151,000) earnings.
