Racing Vic Stewards To Continue Jockey Vest Blitz
Racing Victoria stewards “will continue a blitz on jockeys wearing & possessing modified vests,” reported The Herald-Sun. Last weekend 5 Victorian jockeys (1 at Caulfield on Saturday & 4 at Cranbourne on Sunday) “were nabbed with vests that did not comply with standard issue” & RV chief steward Terry Bailey said the clampdown “stemmed from last month's national chairmen of stewards' conference”. Bailey emphasised stewards would continue to be vigilant, warning: “We will be having a blitz for a while." Victorian Jockeys' Association chief executive Des O'Keeffe confirmed all jockeys “had been notified about the crackdown through text messages & a newsletter”.
