Pour Moi Wins Gr1 English Derby

Monday, 6th June 2011

In the UK, dual-Derby winning stallion & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a Gr1 triumph when Irish-bred & French-trained colt Pour Moi (Montjeu-Gwynn, by Darshaan) produced a sensational finishing burst from last-to-first to snatch victory by a head in the £1.25 million (A$1.713m) Gr1 English Derby (12 furlongs) for 3YOs at Epsom Downs. Pour Moi (ridden by Mickael Barzalona for trainer Andre Fabre) defeated fellow colts Treasure Beach (Galileo-Honorine, by Mark Of Esteem) & Queen Elizabeth’s US-bred favourite Carlton House (Street Cry-Talented, by Bustino). Pour Moi took his record to 3 wins (also including May’s French Gr2 Prix Greffulhe over 2000m at Saint-Cloud) & a placing (in April's French Gr3 Prix La Force over 2100m at Longchamp) from 5 starts for £798,893 (A$1.094m) earnings.
