Also in Italy, former Australian champion 1st-season sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a black-type success (& 38th individual stakes-winner world-wide) when his colt Passaggio (Exceed And Excel-Copious, by Generous) came from the rear of the field to dead-heat with UK-bred colt Nice Danon (Sakhee-Miss Universe, by Warning) in the €50,400 (A$69,000) Listed Premio D’Estate (1600m) for 3YOs at San Siro. Passaggio (ridden by Umberto Rispoli for trainer Antonino Cascio) & Nice Danon (ridden by Andreas Suborics for trainer Andreas Wohler) scored by 0.75-length from fellow colt Charlemagne Wood (King Charlemagne-Eurirs, by Indian Ridge). Passaggio was a €16,000 (A$22,000) yearling at the 2009 Italian SGA September Sale; overall he now has 3 wins & 5 placings from 15 starts for €56,795 (A$78,000) earnings. Nice Danon was a €95,000 (A$130,000) yearling at France’s 2009 Arqana August Sale; overall he now has 2 wins & 3 placings (in April’s German Gr3 Preis Dr Busch Memorial over 1700m at Krefeld, plus both 2010’s German Gr2 Zukunfts-Rennen over 1400m at Baden-Baden & Gr3 Preis Der Winterfavoriten over 1600m at Cologne) from 7 starts for €70,660 (A$97,000) earnings.
