Frankel Wins UK Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes
Former shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a UK Gr1 triumph overnight when Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farm home-bred unbeaten colt Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) who was last season's European Champion 2YO Male continued his rise to stardom with a 0.75-length victory in the £250,000 (A$383,000) Gr1 St James’s Palace Stakes (8 furlongs) for 3YO colts at Royal Ascot. Hot favourite Frankel (ridden by Tom Queally for trainer Henry Cecil) defeated Irish-breds Zoffany (Dansili-Tyranny, by Machiavellian) & Excelebration (Exceed And Excel-Sun Shower, by Indian Ridge). Frankel now has 7 wins (also including both April’s Gr1 English 2000 Guineas over 8 furlongs at Newmarket & Gr3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2010's Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket & Gr2 Royal Lodge Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot) from 7 starts for £635,478 (A$972,000) earnings.
