Ironstein Wins Tattersall's Cup
NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a group success when top-weighted 5YO gelding Ironstein (Zabeel-Gentle Genius, by Danehill) scored by a half-head (& then survived a protest by the runner-up) in the $200,000 Gr3 Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm. Ironstein (ridden by Brenton Avdulla for trainer Gerald Ryan) defeated favoured 6YO gelding Shuffle The Cash (Dash For Cash-Final Shuffle, by Forest Glow) & 8YO gelding Little Stranger (Dodge-Mrs Bligh, by Celestial Bounty). Ironstein (a $250,000 yearling consigned by Strawberry Hill Stud at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) now has 7 wins (also including May’s Listed W.J.McKell Cup over 2400m at Rosehill, plus 2010's Listed Caloundra City Cup over 2400m at the Sunshine Coast) & 8 placings (including May’s Listed Wagga Wagga Gold Cup over 2000m & 2010's Listed Grafton Cup over 2350m) from 27 starts for $516,900 earnings.
