Vic Govt $2m Funding For Jumps Racing

Victorian Racing Minister Dr Denis Napthine announced the government will provide “a $2 million package” for jumps racing in that state over a 4-year period, with the main feature a boost to prize-money for feature races. Napthine noted: “The $2 million provided by the Coalition Government across 4 years is part of our $79.5 million Victorian Racing Industry Fund sourced from unclaimed wagering dividends & on-course betting taxes. We are also increasing the prize-money for the Grand Annual & Grand National Steeplechase events to $250,000 & increasing the minimum prize for winning a jumps race to $20,000. These incentives will encourage more jockeys, trainers, owners & breeders to invest in their jumps horses & ensure the code continues to improve year after year.”
