Vet Check On Americain For Melb Cup

Tuesday, 23rd August 2011

Last year’s winners Americain “is still Melbourne Cup-bound pending a vet check after his flop in France on Sunday night” reported The Herald-Sun. Australian part-owner Gerry Ryan said the advice from trainer Alain de Royer Dupre was to “rule a line” through Americain's unplaced run, after he went down on his knees as the gates opened. Ryan confirmed: “He never really found his feet. We'll have the vet go over him.” If Americain “gets the all clear, he will go into quarantine early next month & arrive in Melbourne with the 2nd wave of international horses”. Ryan said Americain would “definitely need another run before the Cup, but a decision on whether that was in the Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate had yet to be made”. American finished 10th of 13 behind Jukebox Jury in France’s Gr2 Prix Kergolay (3000m) at Deauville on Sunday.
