Keeneland Yearlings Day-5: US$1.35m Awesome Again Colt
In the US auction ring, Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs paid top price of US$1.35 million for a colt by Awesome Again (out of winning Unbridled mare Legs Lawlor) during the 5th session at the 13-day Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Kentucky. The colt was consigned by Bill & Carole McAlpin’s Greenwood Lodge Farm & his dam Legs Lawlor is an Irish-raced half-sister to US 1997 Horse-Of-The-Year Favorite Trick, stakes-winner Cold N Calculating & Gr1-placed Medieval Hero. Stronach stands Awesome Again at his Adena Springs Kentucky farm & Adena Springs South manager Mark Roberts (who was on the phone with Stronach during the bidding) commented: “He is a very nice horse; very elegant. We liked that he is out of a young Unbridled mare; the family is very nice. But we just liked the individual. He’s got a lot of stretch to him, a lot of scope. We thought he stood out in the sale.” And Bill McAlpin added: “We knew he was a good horse & we expected him to do well, but we didn’t expect that (the million-dollar sale).”
