Monday, 19th September 2011

In France, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a group success when Irish-bred colt Casamento (Shamardal-Wedding Gift, by Always Fair) came from the rear of the field to score a 1-length victory in the €80,000 (A$106,000) Gr3 Prix du Prince D’Orange (2000m) for 3YOs at Longchamp in Paris. Casamento (ridden by Mickael Barzalona for trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni) defeated Japanese-bred colt Barocci (Deep Impact-Bastet, by Giant's Causeway) & UK-bred Desert Blanc (Desert Style-Lumiere Rouge, by Indian Ridge). Casamento was a €54,000 (A$72,000) weanling at Ireland’s 2008 Goffs November Sale & overall now has 4 wins (also including 2010’s UK Gr1 Racing Post Trophy over 8 furlongs at Doncaster & Irish Gr2 Beresford Stakes over 8 furlongs at The Curragh) & a runner-up (in 2010’s Irish Gr1 National Stakes over 7 furlongs at The Curragh) from 7 starts for €310,843 (A$413,000) earnings.
