Zazu Wins US Gr1 Lady's Secret Stakes

Tuesday, 4th October 2011

US Horse-Of-The-Year Zenyatta's owners Jerry & Ann Moss's latest star 3YO filly Zazu (Tapit-Rhumb Line, by Mr Greeley) came from back in the field to score a half-length victory against older rivals in the US$250,000 Gr1 Lady’s Secret Stakes (8.5 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Santa Anita. Zazu (ridden by Joel Rosario for trainer John Sadler) defeated 5YO mare Ultra Blend (Richly Blended-Ankha, by Desert Classic) & Brazilian-bred fellow 3YO filly Great Hot (Orientate-That's Hot, by Seeking The Gold). Zazu (a US$100,000 weanling at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Sale & later a US$285,000 yearling at the 2009 Keeneland September Sale) took her record to 4 wins (also including June’s Gr2 Hollywood Oaks over 8.5 furlongs at Hollywood Park & February’s Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita) & 6 placings (including August’s Gr1 Clement Hirsch Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Del Mar, May’s Gr1 Kentucky Oaks over 9 furlongs at Churchill Downs, March’s Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita & January’s Gr2 Santa Ynez Stakes over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2010's Listed Moccasin Stakes over 7 furlongs at Hollywood Park) from 11 starts for US$682,985 earnings.
