Helmet Wins Gr1 Caulfield Guineas

On the Australian track, former Australian champion 1st-season sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a Gr1 triumph when front-running favoured colt Helmet (Exceed And Excel-Accessories, by Singspiel) scored by a half-neck in the $1 million Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs at Caulfield in Melbourne. Helmet (ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for trainer Peter Snowden) set a new race record (1min 35.36sec on a “Dead 4” track) in defeating the gelding Manawanui (Oratorio-Lady Remlap, by Filante) & fellow colt Huegill (More Than Ready-Trust Antonia, by National Assembly). Helmet now has 6 wins (also including September’s Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude over 1400m at Caulfield. both April's Gr1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m at Randwick & Gr1 Inglis Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m at Randwick) & 3 placings (including September’s Gr1 Golden Rose over 1400m at Rosehill on & August's Gr3 Run To The Rose over 1200m at Rosehill) from 9 starts for $1,503,550 earnings.
