UK Tatts Yearlings Book-2 Day-2: $363k Shamardal Colt
In the UK auction ring overnight, father & son agents Peter & Ross Doyle out-bid fellow agents Stephen Hillen & Anthony Stroud to pay top price of 220,000 guineas (A$363,000) for a colt by European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former shuttler Shamardal (the 1st foal out of Montjeu mare Melody Fair) during the middle session of the 3-day Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2. The colt (already named Meshardal) was consigned from Ireland’s Pier House Stud & Ross Doyle (standing alongside Richard Hannon junior) commented: “He is for a new client. He was the nicest horse here today & the record of Shamardal speaks for itself. We've been lucky with the horses we've bought off Pier House before.” The sale represented a huge pin-hooking result for Pier House Stud’s Brendan Morrin, who purchased the colt for just 75,000 guineas (A$124,000) at the 2010 Tattersalls December Foal Sale. Morrin declared: “We are delighted. We loved him as a foal, he was a great mover. He was very busy here, was vetted 5 times & everyone who saw him loved him.”
