Ranger Wins Northerly Stakes
Vinery Stud's 6-time Gr1-winning stallion Testa Rossa (Perugino-Bo Dapper, by Sir Dapper) added a black-type success (& 30th individual stakes-winner) when 5YO gelding Ranger (Testa Rossa-Marrich Bay, by Old Spice) scored by a nose in the $80,000 Listed Northerly Stakes (1400m) at Ascot in Perth. Ranger (ridden by William Pike for trainer Grant Williams) defeated favoured fellow 5YO gelding Waratah's Secret (Oratorio-Blissfully, by Zabeel) & 6YO gelding Mega Steel (Helenus-Cabernet Queen, by Marauding). Ranger (a Bob Peters home-bred) now has 5 wins (also including 2010’s Listed WA St Leger over 2100m at Ascot) & 6 placings (including 2010’s Gr3 R.J.Peters Stakes over 1500m at Ascot & Listed T.J.Smith Trophy over 1600m at Ascot, plus 2009's Listed Aquanita Stakes over 1800m at Ascot) from 15 starts for $261,750 earnings.
