French Yearlings Final Average Down 0.87%

Friday, 21st October 2011

The Arqana October Yearling Sale concluded with 375 lots sold for €10,327,000 (A$13.941m) which was down 3% from 2010. The final average of €27,539 (A$37,200) was fractionally down by 0.87% & the final median of €20,000 (A$27,000) was down by 5%. The clearance rate dropped from 73% last year to 68%. Arqana president Eric Hoyeau commented: “The overall results are similar to those of last year. One of the main differences, however, is the clearance rate, which is at its lowest since 2005. We have definitely reached our saturation point, in terms of numbers of yearlings catalogued, and we will need to have more raw selection next year. It is hard however, as France is the only country where the number of foals born has not reduced, this coming as a result of the healthiness of our industry.”
