Overall in Kentucky, 267 lots sold for US$4,562,600 (up 61.7% on last year's 183 sold for US$2,821,500). The average of US$17,088 was up 10.8% (last year US$15,418) & the median of US$6,000 was up 5.3% (last year US$5,700). The clearance rate was 77.8% (last year 77.2%). Bloodhorse.com commented: "The prevailing trend in the American thoroughbred marketplace recently has been positive & the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale generated more upbeat news as all key business figures increased from a year ago." And Fasig-Tipton's vice president of sales Bayne Welker added: "Where there was quality, it (the sale) exceeded expectations. On the lower level, some horses that would have been hard to move a year ago or 2 years ago are now seeing trade. Confidence in the market is creeping back upward. We're very pleased."
