Rain Affair Tackles Record For Consecutive Sydney Metro Wins
Meanwhile boom 4YO gelding Rain Affair (Commands-I Believe, by Believe It) "is on the longest winning streak on Sydney racetracks since the legendary Peter Pan" reported The Daily Telegraph. "And the explosive sprinter shoots for a record 9th successive win in the Gr2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow." Rain Affair's unbeaten run began in March last year & he has subsequently won on every Sydney racetrack during his 8-race sequence: Warwick Farm 3 wins, Rosehill Gardens twice & once each at Randwick, Kensington & Canterbury. The last horse to win 8 consecutive races on all Sydney racetracks was Peter Pan in 1935. Peter Pan (winner of the 1932 & 1934 Melbourne Cups) won 8 weight-for-age races in a row during the Sydney Autumn & Spring carnival; there have been "longer winning streaks, but not when every race was in Sydney". Champion Kingston Town is famous for his 21 successive Sydney wins "but they were not in consecutive race starts as he regularly campaigned interstate". In recent years, Primrose Sands & Bentley Biscuit won their initial 8 races "but each began their careers at the provincials, before graduating to city class".
