Ricardo Sets New World Jockey Record At 11,596 Wins
In Argentina, Brazilian superstar rider Jorge Ricardo regained the title as the world's all-time leading jockey by landing his 11,596th winner aboard 2YO Winning Prize at Hipodromo San Isidro in Buenos Aires. Ricardo, 50, returned to the saddle after missing 219 days in 2009 for cancer treatment for lymphoma & regained the lead from US jockey Russell Baze. Ricardo (who won 26 Brazilian riding titles in Rio de Janeiro before moving permanently to Argentina in 2006) became the 1st jockey in the world to reach 10,000 wins in 2008. But later Baze, 53, became the 1st jockey in the world to reach 11,000 winners in August 2010.
