Ambitious Campaign Ahead For Forest Indigo
The R1 million Gr1 CPYS Cape Guineas (1600m) at Kenilworth on December 21 has been named as the end of year target for top South African colt Forest Indigo, reports goldcircle.co.za. Trainer Alec Laird confirmed that he would be taking Forest Indigo (Judpot-Albizia, by Fort Wood) down to Cape Town for the Cape Sizzling Summer Season, which has been used as a launching pad for many future champions' careers. Laird said that Forest Indigo would be accompanied on his trip by stable-mate Earl Of Derby, as he has a tendency to be lazy in his work and requires a companion to motivate him. Forest Indigo, who became one of two first crop Gr1 winners for young sire sensation Judpot (A.P. Indy-Miesque, by Nureyev) when he claimed the Golden Horseshoe at Greyville in July, will reappear in either the Progress Plate at Clairwood on October 20 or a minor feature in Cape Town on October 26 before using the Gr2 Selangor Cup (1600m) at Kenilworth on November 16 as his main prep race for the Guineas. "This will be the first time I have had a horse in Cape Town for an extended period since London News, although I have raided since then," explained Laird. "The Dingaans and the Cape Guineas three weeks later can be done, but it is tough. He will have to give weight away in the Selangor, as opposed to the Dingaans being level weights, but it will be a preparation run." Laird reported that Forest Indigo was still at his satellite stable at Summerveld and was working well.
