Star UK Females Set For Rematch

Wednesday, 25th September 2013

Meanwhile, top UK fillies Elusive Kate and Sky Lantern will both start in the Gr1 Sun Chariot Stakes (8 furlongs) at Newmarket on Saturday in what shapes as a fascinating rematch, reports sportinglife.com. The classy gallopers were involved in a controversial finish to the Gr1 Falmouth Stakes back in July when the John Gosden-trained 4YO Elusive Kate (Elusive Quality-Gout de Terroir, by Lemon Drop Kid) laid in on Richard Hannon's 3YO Sky Lantern (Red Clubs-Shawanni, by Shareef Dancer), carrying her across the track. Elusive Kate survived a stewards' inquiry and a subsequent appeal by Hannon and Sky Lantern's owners. Elusive Kate then went on to win the Gr1 Prix Rothschild in France before finishing midfield in the Gr1 Prix Jacques Le Marois behind Moonlight Clud. Gosden is hoping the 4-time Gr1-winner can go one better than 12 months ago when she was second to Siyouma. "We are happy with her and the plan is for her to run in the Sun Chariot," Gosden said. Sky Lantern hasn't raced since finishing fifth to Winsili in the Gr1 Nassau in early August but is in fine form according to the stable. "Sky Lantern is in great form. She worked well on Sunday and we are very happy with her," said Hannon. "Elusive Kate is a very good filly who is a year older than Sky Lantern and I am sure that she will be very difficult to beat."
