Sertorius Fancied For Listed Bendigo Cup
Today's $240,000 Listed Bendigo Cup (2400m) has been reduced to a field of twelve following the scratching of top-weight Mourayan. The Jamie Edwards & Bruce Elkington-trained Sertorius (Galileo-Pretty Penny, by Encosta de Lago) has been installed as the $4.60 favourite, slightly ahead of the Peter Moody-trained French-bred galloper Kesampour (King's Best-Kasatana, by Hernando) at $5.50. Galileo 6YO Sertorius is coming off a fast-finishing second behind Mourinho in the Listed Cranbourne Cup, while Kesampour appears to boast marginally stronger credentials following his 5th placing in the Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes behind Sea Moon. Others in the race with undeniable claims are Gotta Take Care, Verdant, Hippopus, Bit Of Hell, Tuscan Fire & Folding Gear. The Lloyd Williams-owned Irish import Massiyn can be expected to improve significantly following his poor showing behind Atlantic Jewel in the Gr1 Caulfield Stakes when beaten 13-lengths. The 5YO son of Zamindar does have ability, as evidenced by his second-placed effort behind Royal Diamond in last year's Gr1 Irish St Leger. Interestingly, this year's Bendigo Cup reverts back to 2400m after being run at 2200m for the past three renewals.
