Polanski Pleases in Trial

Friday, 31st January 2014

Trainer Robbie Laing could hardly contain his excitement after watching Victoria Derby winner Polanksi (Rakti-Citrium, by Citidancer) trial at Cranbourne yesterday, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Polanski finished third, beaten 3-lengths by Gr3-winning sprinter Lankan Rupee, in the second fastest 800m heat of the day. Laing said he could not have asked the talented young stayer to do any more given he was up against such a quality group of sprinters. "He made the corner pretty wide and lost ground, but was right there at the finish," Laing said. "The last little bit was beautiful." Polanski will open his autumn campaign in the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 8 February before progressing to the Gr1 Futurity (1400m) at the same track a fortnight later. Laing said Polanski would then contest the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington before travelling to Sydney for the Gr1 Australian Derby. Laing has always held the son of Rakti in high regard, previously stating he would not be surprised if he developed into a "star of the turf."
