The Fugue Primed For World Cup Meeting
John Gosden says a mild winter has allowed outstanding UK mare The Fugue (Dansili-Twyla Tharp, by Sadler's Wells) to have a smooth prep ahead of her 2014 debut at the Dubai World Cup meeting, reports 1.skysports.com. The Dansili mare enjoyed a stellar 4YO season last year, winning both the Yorkshire Oaks and Irish Champion Stakes as well as finishing runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Turf and Hong Kong Vase. The Fugue is among the likely runners for the Dubai World Cup on 29 March, although the Sheema Classic is also an option. "She's in good form," Gosden told At The Races. "Obviously it's early in the year for fillies but she worked nicely (at the weekend) and we're very pleased and happy with her." Gosden added, "Dar Re Mi in the same ownership went there and won the Sheema Classic and did it out of the ice and cold. This winter, as we all know, has been a very different one altogether. We've been lucky to have been able to move along quite normally with her." The Fugue, owned by Lord Lloyd-Webber who bred her at his Watership Down Stud in Berkshire, has won 5 of her 14 starts, including three Gr1s, for £1.6 million in earnings.
