Mongolian Khan Ready For Australian Debut
Murray Baker has provided an update on star Kiwi colt Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor-Centafit, by Centaine) who will make his Australian debut in the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Speaking to RSNs Shane Anderson, Baker said the New Zealand Derby winner was in good shape as he prepares to take on Australia's best 3YOs on Saturday. "He seems to have settled in very well here. He will go into the race probably a little bit fresh though because he hasn't raced for three weeks and he had a bit of a break after the Derby win," Baker said. "I'll be interested to see how he goes." Mongolian Khan is using the Rosehill Guineas as his final prep for the Gr1 Australian Derby on 4 April, and Baker believes the 2400 metres of the Randwick Classic will be more to his liking. "He's got a good record past the mile. He certainly stays well. He's a good, relaxed horse in the run. Although I feel he is more of a long distance horse rather than a 2000 metre horse," Baker said. "It looks like a really good race this week. If he is running on we'll be happy."
