Vain Queen Ready For Gr1

Tuesday, 24th March 2015

Talented sprinting mare Vain Queen (Artie Schiller-Our Teneriffe, by Kenvain) has buoyed the confidence of her trainer John Sadler ahead of Friday night's Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) after trialling strongly at Moonee Valley yesterday, reports racing.com. Sadler said he was thrilled with the 5YO's performance in an 800m gallop and is bullish about her prospects of landing her first Gr1 victory on Friday. "I was really pleased with her, she worked alongside another mare of ours Carashan Girl who's a very good track worker and they had a really good hit-out," Sadler said. "The sectional times over the last 400 were very good and I couldn't be happier with her at this stage going in to what looks a very open Group 1 race." He added, "I was pleased coming here this morning but I actually go away happier than when I arrived because of not so much the work, but how she handled the work. It really was water off a duck's back to her so she's going to take some beating." Vain Queen, a winner of the  Gr3 G.H.Mumm Stakes (1100m) for mares in November, resumed with a pleasing fourth behind Shamal Wind in the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate three weeks ago and Sadler is adamant she should have finished closer. "It was a terrific run, she just got held up at a crucial stage of the race," he said. "I think she's Group 1 class so if it's not Friday night then it might be down the track." He added, "I'd be really surprised if she doesn't acquit herself well on Friday night."
