Able Friend Passes Crucial Gallop Test
Yesterday morning at Hong Kong's Sha Tin racetrack, phenomenally gifted Australian-bred 4YO gelding Able Friend booked himself a ticket to the UK and a potentil date with destiny. According to scmp.com, the son of Sharmardal and Volksraad mare Ponto Piccolo was given the green light by trainer John Moore after record-breaking hoop Joao Moreira put the imposing bay through his paces over 1600m on turf. After the gallop Moore noted that Able Friend, who recently earned a 125 ranking as the world's joint best racehorse, is only "85-90 percent fit" ahead of his mouth-watering attempt to frank his global profile at Royal Ascot in two weeks. Moreira acknowledged, "I was actually very happy he didn't trial in an outstanding manner. That means he is heading to his best when we need him to be. Still, I was delighted in the way he travelled and he did nothing wrong. It's been a long season. He has done extremely well, but I still think there is a little more to get out of him."
