Press Statement Wins Gr1 JJ Atkins

Tuesday, 9th June 2015

At Doomben in Queensland, Yarraman Park's Gr3-winning & 4-time Gr1-placed stallion Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) celebrated his first Gr1 success when 2YO colt Press Statement (Hinchinbrook-Kaaptive Empress, by Kaaptive Edition) scored by 0.8-length for trainer Chris Waller in the $600,000 Gr1 JJ Atkins (1600m) for 2YOs, over 2YO fillies Sagaronne (Real Saga-Lasoron, by Oarsman) & Look To The Stars (I Am Invincible-Star Prize, by Southern Halo). This was a brilliant victory by the unbeaten Press Statement who took his record to 3 wins from 3 starts for $492,775 earnings. "The way he won at Canterbury you could see he was special that day, we just thought he'd need the run, improve off it and make a lovely three-year-old," Waller said. "We knew from that win that he was something special so we looked after him with this in mind, knowing he couldn't take a backwards step." He added: "Obviously he only won last Saturday and to get on a truck, come up here and race in Group One company, he's a pretty special horse." A homebred for Tony Muollo, Press Statement is a half-brother to Pressday (Domesday) whom Waller trained to win the JJ Atkins Stakes in 2010 when it was known as the TJ Smith Classic.
