Srikandi Wins Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap

Tuesday, 9th June 2015

At Doomben in Queensland, triple Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) celebrated a Gr1 success when talented 4YO mare Srikandi (Dubawi-Raining, by Hurricane Sky) scored by 1.8-lengths for trainer Ciaron Maher in the $2 million Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) for 3YO+, over 5YO geldings Boban (Bernardini-Kenbelle, by Kenmare) & Generalife (Lonhro-Albaicin, by Redoute's Choice). This was a well deserved maiden Gr1 victory for Srikandi who boosted her impressive record to 8 wins (including the Gr2 Victory Stakes, Gr3 Glenlogan Park Stakes & Listed Silk Stocking) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap) from 12 starts for $1,847,600 earnings. "It was a great effort by the team to get her back up," Maher said. "It hasn't gone really smoothly this prep but they've done a lot of hard work." He added: "This mare has a big following and to win a Group One is extra good. She really deserves to be a Group One winner."
