Able Friend A Picture Of Health On UK Arrival
Australian racing's highest-profile ambassador, Able Friend, has arrived in good order at the Newmarket base from which he will prepare for next week's Royal Ascot meeting. According to Aushorse, the Australian born-and-bred champion who has raced his way to the top of official world rankings under the guidance of trainer John Moore in Hong Kong is set to open the program at the world's most prestigious race meeting. Able Friend's target is the Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes (1600m), the first race of the five-day meeting, in which he will be opposed by French star Solow, who is the early favourite. Moore said the 5YO had arrived in "absolutely perfect" condition having lost a mere 10 pounds during the 20-hour flight from Hong Kong to Heathrow. "The trip went off without a hitch," Moore said. "He travelled fantastic and I couldn't be happier. He is right on the weight we want, ate everything up and drank a heap of water. The son of Shamardal, whose first win was in a Wyong maiden, will be attempting to win his seventh successive race (which has included a swathe of Gr1s) and 13th in all in the Queen Anne.
