Injury Sidelines Zawraq

Wednesday, 10th June 2015

Unbeaten Irish colt Zawraq (Shamardal-Sundus, by Sadler's Wells), who missed Saturday's Epsom Derby due to a setback, will be sidelined for most of the season after x-rays revealed the colt had suffered a crack to his off-fore cannon bone, reports Racing Post. The injury will necessitate the insertion of two screws, with trainer Dermot Weld commenting: "Zawraq is going to need a few months' recuperation. There is no point in talking about plans until we review the situation in about three months' time." The Shadwell-owned 3YO has won his only two starts to date, highlighted by his 3.5-length win over Easy Drama in the Listed 2000 Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown in April. The strength of that form was subsequently franked when Easy Drama finished a narrow second to the highly regarded Gleneagles in the Irish 2000 Guineas last month.
