SAf Star Legislate To Bypass Durban July

Thursday, 11th June 2015

South Africa's current leading racehorse will bypass next month's prestigious Gr1 Durban July Handicap at Greyville in Durban. According to sport24.co.za, Legislate, who won last year's race by a nose from Australian-bred Wylie Boy en-route to earning Horse of the Year honours, will instead be aimed at other features on the South African turf calendar. Pitted against South Africa's rising star Futura in last weekend's Gr1 Gold Challenge at Greyville, Legislate triumphed over Australian-bred colt Willow Magic (Dubawi), with favoured Futura finishing fourth. The report claims that the son of Dynasty was always unlikely to attempt back-to-back Julys, and that connections have nominated him for the Gr1 Mercury Sprint & Gr1 Champions Cup.
