Shimrano Wins German Gr2

Monday, 15th June 2015

The Australian-owned Shimrano (Monsun-Shimrana, by Daylami) showed he was on track for next month's German Derby when winning the Gr2 Oppenheim Union Rennen (2200m) at Cologne yesterday. The Monsun colt defeated Areo (Medicean) & Nutan (Duke Of Marmalade) by three-quarters of a length to take his record to 2 wins from 4 starts for €58,200 in prize money. Shimrano is set to join the Victorian stable of Lee and Anthony Freedman after he contests the German Derby. Speaking after Shimrano's maiden victory in May, Lee Freedman said: "Being a two-year-old there was no point in bringing him out here so the view was to run him right through until the German Derby and then make some decisions." He added: "Any number of things could happen (post the German Derby) but I believe the initial response is that he will eventually come to Australia."
