Chrome Set To Miss Royal Ascot

Tuesday, 16th June 2015

California Chrome is set to miss his scheduled engagement in the Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot tomorrow due to a foot abscess, reports Racing Post. It is believed the problem, which became apparent on Monday, cannot be treated in time for the race. The news is deeply disappointing for the horse's connections, Ascot officials and racing fans alike, who were all excited about the prospect of seeing the popular US Horse of the Year compete at the royal meeting. Trainer Art Sherman told the Racing Post: "It's devastating. We have never had a pimple on this horse all the time we've had him but the abscess popped out and the foot wasn't good. I am so sorry he can't run." Rae Guest, with whom California Chrome has been boarding since he arrived in Newmarket, said: "We were hoping his foot would be better tonight, having poulticed it all day, but he's still sore this evening. It's frustrating, as he could be fine by Thursday." He added: "It is a shame for everyone involved as he had been working really well, but these things happen in racing."
